The IROC Porsches chronicles the original International Race of Champions 1973–74 season, in which the world’s top drivers battled in 15 different color Porsche RSRs vying to claim the title of world’s greatest racing driver. We worked with the publishing team at Motorbooks and author Matt Stone to bring the story of the cars and their drivers to life.

The Porsches’ paint colors were carefully chosen to maximize their visibility on television. The colors were matched and used as a signature feature on the inside of book case and for each of the 7 chapter openers and sidebar content fields.

The book features 200+ archival images of the cars and drivers including still footage from the televised event and promotional ephemera across 7 chapters. Racing legend George Follmer authored the book’s introduction.

For the book’s typographic language we used two distinct Grotesk families. Fixture from Sudtipos was selected for the large chapter numbers and headlines to achieve dramatic scale. Scto Grotesk A designed by Schick Toikka was used for body and tabular content.

We went in a slightly different direction for the individual race data but had presented this dashboard for direction-setting with the editorial team.
