We were responsible for the book design of the fifth edition of Becoming a Graphic & Digital Designer by Steven Heller and Veronique Vienne. The book that presents a holistic view of the ever-evolving field of design, with an increased emphasis on digital practices. As a guide, it is intended to help both students and individuals interested in entering the design field prepare for successful careers. Content throughout the book includes design inspiration, design genres, and design education, with discussion of the specific career options available in print, interactive, and motion design.
Our cover design typographically creates a visual connection by interlacing the more traditional and established practices of graphic design (represented by the blackletter) with the more modern, digital practices of design (the modern, sans serif letterform).

As a functional guide, the book design strikes a satisfying balance between the density of the written content and the presence of the supporting case study images. The book is structured with 4 distinct sections marked by a bold typographic blackletter section number that echos the cover design. Supporting chapters within each section feature interview-style articles with leading international designers across the span of design practices.
